Handling Disappointment
Disappointment is an inevitable part of home-based business. Clients won't pay, bids fall through, or business associates don't come through on their promises or act unethically. Some people will deliberately foster cynicism in their consciousness as a way of avoiding the pain of disappointment. This is mistaken as a means of making life better. Disappointment is a temporary condition. Cynicism is a long term poisoning sickness. Neither is necessary; but until the addiction to cynicism is broken, the attraction of positive events in life is greatly inhibited. Thus there is a cycle of disappointment and cynicism. Let go of that negativity and let the good in. Cynicism is the result of frustrated anger. We have failed to give ourselves permission to own our anger about some life event, by telling ourselves that we should have known better in the first place. This allows no space to express or release the anger, and a cycle can be set up of trying to avoid the same situation from occurring again. So, we will say "I knew it," or some version of that as a form of defense against this internalized anger. A better attitude to take is one of realism. We must accept that it's alright to be angry, to know that life is not supposed to go badly. We must acknowledge that the world does not always reward people on the basis of our merits and go on from there. Nothing will change for the better unless we want it to and take concrete steps to make this happen. Choosing The Perfect Coach
So, you're ready to start coaching. You either have some issues that you think a coach can help you overcome, or you just think it's time for a quality of life tune-up. You've reviewed your budget and set aside some money to cover the fees and you've ascertained that you are reasonably free of any serious mental or emotional issues that might interfere with the process. But now comes the big question: "How can I find a coach that's right for me?"
Attitude
What makes attitude so important? Why not just learn some "seduction
techniques" to get the girl? The answer is simple: learning techniques (or
having expensive clothing and cars) without improving your attitude is like
wrapping a cheap gift in expensive wrapping paper. It still looks expensive
on the outside, but when the girl "unwraps" you, she'll find out that you
were faking it all along. This might work for a one-night stand, but if you
want anything more, you'll need to change both on the "inside" and
"outside".
Grow Through It
It's past bedtime for most working men. It's not unbearably late and I have no appointments tomorrow morning so I sit here and contemplate. Contemplate what? Well, what do I always contemplate? Life, the concept of God, the meaning of life, what's happening in society, and my next step in my own journey; there really is a lot to consider or, more aptly put, more that one can consider. I speak of being in the moment, staying present and not worrying. You are more effective in that place. Yet, there are times for reflection.
Control, Helplessness, and Love
During my 35 years of counseling individuals, couples, families and business partners, I have discovered that an important purpose of our controlling behavior in our relationships is to avoid the feeling of helplessness. One of the hardest feelings to feel is helplessness. Most of us are unwilling to even know what we are and are not helpless over. Our controlling behavior toward others generally comes from our unwillingness to accept our helplessness over others' feelings and behavior. We do not want to know that we are helpless over whether another chooses to be loving and accepting toward us or judgmental and rejecting toward us.
